--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * * * Feedback and arguments about our Spam blocking facility and Blacklist * * * --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Members are sick and tired of all the spam from "Freemail" email services like gmail.com, google.com, hotmail.com etc. and their refusal to do anything about it such as blocking their OUTGOING spammers !! Please note we do NOT Blacklist any specific email provider COMPLETELY by their domain name. ONLY the specific IP addresses of email servers that HAVE actually sent us Spam. You may appreciate this is a VERY tedious task but as fair as we can make it. See http://micronica.com.au/support/spam2.txt Also we UNBLOCK offenders at their request once they have tracked their spammer. Please note that if members have any users of freemail services they WANT to receive email from they can ask to have their specific email adresses listed to get through for FREE ! Such as fred@hotmail.com for example. Just email us any email addresses you want to ALLOW. No charge for that! *) Appreciate your efforts to filter out SPAM and agree that blocking HOTMAIL, as a major offender, is a sound idea. John K. *) I vote to ban Hotmail Simon J. *) Great for the implementation of Spam filters as it drives you crackers with all the crap that comes through. Please do not change it back. For those who think that it causes "greater inconvenience by blocking all "(crap)" mail from two of the world's largest email providers", can always lock on to the "world's largest email providers" and exercise their delete button finger to their heart's delight. But please spare us the suffering. Greetings Wolfgang B. *) I read the article, I'm of the view that there is far greater inconvenience caused by blocking all mail from two of the world's largest email providers, than by having to press delete a few times each day. But there you go, that's just my view John B." *) I know from members comments its often not just "a few each day". Certainly I am fed up with all the emails offering millions of dollars "From the brother of the prime minister of..." etc etc and also all the other spams we get from Hotmail users that hide behind anonymity for all kinds of frauds and scams. And it is inevitable that users at gmail and hotmail will look for OTHER emails at micronica.com.au same as we have seen done by Yahoo to send all our customers spam. *) Ed, Since your SPAM blocking measures were introduced, I have not received one item of SPAM! Prior to this, approx 50% of my incoming e-mails were of the SPAM variety. Many thanks. Stan B. *) Hi Edward The spam filter seems to be working fine and seems very successful. One month plus ago when I opened up I had been deleting two or threee very obvious ringins. During the last two logins - zero. As you can guess I am very happy - thanks. Herb W. *) Hi Edward I assume these filters allow me to send to hotmail/yahoo accounts? I'm asking as I am on a few newsgroups and a recent mail I sent to a yahoo group (yesterday) didn't arrive. FYI I've had an acct for years and get no spam (I don't use a PC/outlook or a hotmail acct to send stuff & I only use this Micronica email acct to send mail) -I find it pretty annoying that I can't receive mail from yahoo/hotmail accounts....my two cents worth Tim C. *) Hi Edward keep blocking to tidy things up. Greg *) Have had no problems so far and don't want any. My aversion to junk mail electronic or otherwise prompts me to support your move. Regards, Ian P. *) I for one, do not mind hitting the delete key for SPAM or simply use the filtering to rid them. I had already read the text you copied and still cannot find how I can receive emails from - yahoo.co.uk - yahoo.com.au - yahoogroups.com - hotmail.com The others I am not interested in. as my daughter and friends send email from there Asking them to email them to my own account at hotmail.com or yahoo is not practical. Tony *) I have a number of friends that use various free email systems such as hotmail, yahoo, freeserve. I am not at all happy about having email from those servers blocked. ...and, for your interest, I have never had one piece of spam email through the Micronica system in the 6 or 7 years I have been using it. Stuart K. *) Hi Edward, Hooray!!! I don't know whether you are soliciting comments from Members for additions to your "Banned List" but for what it is worth, here's my list of E-mail sources which have repeatedly offended and whom I have "Black-listed" for automatic deletion askinsandtate.com (24 "hits") chowandjenkins.com (11) email.com (17) europe.com (9) juno.com (29) msn.com (21) pleasuremailer.com (7) tateandbaker.com (11) yeohandtate.com (14) In addition to your existing ban on three "yahoo" variations, I've also had Spam from yahoo.com.au (4); yahoo.com.hk (6) and yahoo.ca (17) Regards David P. *)Ed, I don't know if this what you want to hear but I am getting more spam since the filters have been implemented. Maybe that there is more spam and even the filter is over whelmed. I'm sure you have got it under control and keep the system working to it's max. Can I get email from hotmail users? If not how do I arrange it if need be. James *) i think the reason for more spam is that recently spam generally has INCREASED tremendously. So even with the blocking and a lot of time updating it is a tough war. Without the blocking it is unimaginable that email would continue as a viable means of cummunication. I have heard from a member who had an account with another isp that one big ISP's even blocked email from another big ISP recently because of spam.
