USB2 TV is ideal for the latest generation systems running Windows XP and
Windows 2000. It is not recommended for prior versions of Windows because of
the lack of full and proper USB2.0 Audio support.
Of course the best thing is to get one and try it for yourself ! So you can
see and understand how easy it is :)
Following are notes for some specific common questions we have been asked
about.
-
Q: Smooth Clear Video but Garbled Sound under Win98
A: Only Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP platform support USB 2.0 Audio.
Because both of these OS's have built in USB audio driver.
Microsoft Windows 98SE and ME platform only support USB 1.1 audio. Because the USB2.0 driver was developed and realeased by Orange Micro - the third party software company when the USB2.0 technology was announced at the
beginning.
Meanwhile, Microsft was promoting their new OS - Windows 2000 and supports the USB2.0 since Windows
2000.
Many USB2.0 host chipset manufacturers developed their own USB2.0 drivers on Windows 98/Me platform
such as VIA, Ali, Intel. So these drivers are only compatible with their own chipset
which can cause some compatibility problems.
So if you select USB audio using Windows 98SE the Audio Driver will be
installed to USB1.1 audio (because Windows98se does not support USB2.0), but the
video stream will be USB2.0 video. This will cause driver conflict and cause
the video and audio of the system not to work properly.
Actually, if you connect to the USB2.0 port thru a USB1.1 HUB or device it
will work fully, of course. Because both stremas will then use USB1.1
;-)
Here is our suggestion if you want to install the USB2.0 TV on Windows98/Me platform. When
you install the video software, choose the Audio by "Sound Card" instead of
USB. The USB2.0 TV will then work OK. For the hardware connection, please connect the PC line in to the
"Audio Out" connector on USB2.0 TV. And connect other audio devices such as DVD audio out with
suitable cable to the "Line In" connection on the USB2.0 TV.
Where can you buy it ? It's quick and easy !
